Green Goals and Inclusivity Updates, Quarter 3, 2025

October 1, 2025

Nine months have passed since we shared our Green Goals for 2025 and we continue to make fantastic progress!

Between July and September 2025 we have been involved with several important Community Environmental Projects including the Surfers Against Sewage Million Mile Clean, Butterfly Conservation's Big Butterfly Count and the North Somerset Bat Survey.

1. Community Environmental Projects

1.1 West Country Parks join the Million Mile Clean

5 months ago, we completed our first Million Mile Clean, collecting 11 sacks of litter over 2 miles, and this September, we did it all over again!

Providing a clean and attractive destination for our visitors to enjoy not only benefits our business, it also positively impacts our local community and the wider environment. Which is why we have committed to join Surfers Against Sewage Million Mile Clean.

Now the biggest initiative of its kind in the UK, the Million Mile Clean is an annual event, mobilising 1,000,000 million volunteers to clean over 10,000,000 miles of UK landscape between 2021 - 2030.

1.2 West Country Parks joins the North Somerset Bat Survey

For 6 nights this September, West Country Parks joined the North Somerset Bat Survey. Led by the Bat Conservation Lab at the University of Bath and in partnership with BTO, North Somerset Council and the Avon Wildlife Trust, the North Somerset Bat Survey aims to collect data on bats across the county, whilst engaging the public with bat conservation.

With our close proximity to the Mendips, it's safe to say that we were expecting some bat activity, but the results were way beyond our expectations! Find out more.

1.3 West Country Parks joins the Big Butterfly Count for the second consecutive year

This summer, several of our parks undertook the Big Butterfly Count. This annual citizen science programme attracted over 125,000 participants between 18th July and 10th August and recorded an impressive 1.7 million butterflies and moths - a marked improvement on last year.

After declining numbers of butterflies resulted in the charity declaring a nationwide Butterfly Emergency in 2024, it’s more important than ever that we continue to support this project.

2. Biodiversity

2.1 Wonderful Wetlands

Ponds, streams and other wetland areas are vital for wildlife. Which is why, this summer, we have been working hard to enhance our man-made lake at Riverside Holiday Village near Weston-super-Mare.

By increasing the size and depth, we aim to provide a more varied habitat in order to support larger and more diverse animal populations.

3. Community Engagement Projects

3.1 Festive Food Bank

We don't think that anyone in our community should have to fear going hungry. So, we will be supporting our local Food Bank again this winter by collecting food donations at several of our holiday parks.

All donations will be gratefully received - find out more.

So, as you can see, we’re well on our way to meeting our Green Goals for 2025 and we look forward to updating you of our progress later in the year.

We are delighted to share that Riverside Holiday Village has been named the Holiday Park of the Year and Dog Friendly Business of the Year at the Bristol, Bath and Somerset Tourism Awards 2026, held at T he Apex City of Bath Hotel in Somerset. These award categories recognise holiday parks, sites and villages that provide exceptional guest experiences across static vans, touring pitches and more with a wide range of facilities and entertainment, and providers of truly memorable experiences for dogs and their human companions. This year marks the second consecutive year that Riverside has won the coveted Holiday Park of the Year Gold Award. Nell Barrington, awards director at Services for Tourism Ltd, commented on the importance of the awards: “What I love most about these awards is that they give tourism businesses the recognition they deserve. So many of them work incredibly hard, often with little reward, and some are tiny teams or even just one person keeping everything going. Despite the challenges the sector continues to face, these businesses have shown excellence, innovation and resilience.” We would like to thank our visitors, supporters and all of our fantastic team for your support.
