Green Goals and Inclusivity Updates, Quarter 1, 2025

March 26, 2025

Visitors may remember that earlier this year we shared our Green Goals for 2025. Despite this being our busiest ever start to the season, we’ve still found the time to make some fantastic progress over the last 3 months and we are proud to share the first of our quarterly updates for 2025;

1. Community Engagement Projects

1.1 The Kingfisher Club joins the growing community of Warm Welcome Spaces

To provide a warm, welcoming, safe space where individuals can connect and make new friends, The Kingfisher Club at Riverside Holiday Village has joined the growing community of more than 5,100 Warm Welcome Spaces across the UK.

This space is open to all; with free Wi-Fi, satellite TV, free events and activities, a clubhouse serving hot food and drinks, plus conversation and a smile 😊

2. Community Environmental Projects

2.1 West Country Parks join the Million Mile Clean

Providing a clean and attractive destination for our visitors to enjoy not only benefits our business, it also positively impacts our local community and the wider environment. Which is why we have committed to join Surfers Against Sewage Million Mile Clean.

Now the biggest initiative of its kind in the UK, the Million Mile Clean is an annual event, mobilising 1,000,000 million volunteers to clean over 10,000,000 miles of UK landscape between 2021 - 2030.

3. Equality, Diversity and Inclusivity

3.1 New Access Guide

There are an estimated 16 million people in the UK with some form of disability, each with individual needs.

To help these visitors to make their own assessment of whether our holiday park is suitable for their unique requirements, we have created and published a comprehensive Access Guide for Riverside Holiday Village.

This guide combines clear photographs of key areas as well as simple wording to give our visitors the opportunity to assess accessibility on our park for themselves.

3.2 New Hearing Loop System

Approximately 2,000,000 people in the UK use hearing aids. So, to better support visitors with hearing impairments, we have installed a new Hearing Loop System in our Reception area at Riverside Holiday Village.

3.3 New 'All Terrain' Wheelchair and Additional Disabled Parking Bays

To allow visitors with mobility issues the opportunity to experience our fishing lake and new meadow walk at Riverside Holiday Village, we have purchased a specialist ‘All Terrian’ Wheelchair which visitors can borrow during their stay. Designed to handle most terrains effortlessly, from city streets to rugged trails, this innovative mobility aid offers the freedom to embrace new experiences. Our wheelchair is allocated on a first-come-first-served basis. Please ask at reception for more information.

We have also doubled the amount of disabled parking spaces outside of our reception and recreational facilities, along with a dedicated mobility scooter parking bay.

So, as you can see, we’re well on our way to meeting our Green Goals for 2025 and we look forward to updating you of our progress later in the year.

Following our annual Mystery Guest visits by a professional inspector this April, each park has been re-assessed under a set of quality standards agreed between the AA and the UK Tourist Authorities. The inspection included an assessment of each parks; Location and Access Sustainability/Green Credentials Customer Care Cleanliness/Maintenance across the park Toilets (quality, cleanliness and maintenance) Other Site Facilities Pitches Grounds All three parks scored an impressive 91% overall (an increase on last year) - with Coombes and Rose Farm both achieving full marks for 'customer care' and Riverside’s impressive facilities and cleanliness/maintenance across the park bagging them the top score. Additionally, each park was again awarded a Gold Award, placing them amongst the best sites in their star category. When visiting Four Star Parks, customers can expect an extremely high standard in all areas, with well-maintained facilities, very good customer care and additional facilites compared to lower rated establishments. On another sunny morning this April, volunteers from Riverside Holiday Village, Edithmead Leisure and Park Homes, Fairways Holiday Park and New House Farm headed out on our third 2-mile 'litter pick' along Bridgwater Road in Weston-super-Mare. We managed to collect 14 sacks of litter, plus several broken road signs and a damaged car tyre! As usual, energy drink cans were by far the biggest offender, closely followed by discarded alcohol bottles and fast food takeaway wrappers. We even found a discarded wet floor sign! All waste was collected by our waste management partner, MJ Church. Now the biggest initiative of its kind in the UK, the Million Mile Clean is an annual event, mobilising 1,000,000 million volunteers to clean over 10,000,000 miles of UK landscape between 2021 - 2030. We would like to say a massive 'thank you' to all of our volunteers - we're planning another 'clean' this September - please keep a lookout for more updates about future events!
